Advantages of Direct Distribution

For companies in the pharmaceutical industry, it makes sense for many reasons to commence our solution of direct-to-pharmacy distribution. One reason is a danger of counterfeit medications – which are increasingly professionally camouflaged – will be smuggled into a chain of commerce and logistics that is far from transparent. Studies have shown that medications sometimes pass through up to 30 different hands before they reach patients.* Accordingly, the quality of original pharmaceutical products cannot be reliably or completely assured because of the limited ability to monitor the tangled logistics chain.

Direct distribution offers pharmacies – and, ultimately, patients as well – the certainty of getting products of reliable quality directly from the manufacturer via a defined, validated, documented sales channel.

Furthermore, the direct distribution of medications has a direct commercial effect for the manufacturer, which now organises deliveries to the pharmacy itself and bears the associated costs; i.e, it can sell at the pharmacy’s purchase price the owner of the goods until they are sold to the pharmacy.

Based on this direct business relationship, pharmaceutical manufacturers can also position the product more precisely and advantageously in the purchasing calculations of the pharmacist.

The starting points mainly encompass incentives within the framework of pharmaceutical price regulations and other relevant laws. The availability of product-specific and pharmacy-specific sales data facilitates exact customer segmentation as well as allocation and analysis of measures.
